my husband and I are starting to play and we are both competitive......so I have to win! We are starting with 200 pts and increasing by 100 each game after, the winner of each of each game will get an extra 50 points to spend. The rules are old standard SBG, not warband. I'm using his old Isengard army, this is what I have:
1 isengard troll
saruman on foot
5 warg riders
2 shamam
vrasku
ugluk
2 captains
2 standards
22 pikemen
9 berserkers
8 cross bows
20 uruk- hai shields
8 scouts with bow
8 scout with 1h
8 scouts with shields

Thats a pretty good force selection, I assume youre seeking advice on who to field for the initial 200 points.
I'd go with
Vrasku
4x Beserkers
2x Uruks w/ Crossbow
5x Uruk-hai w/ shield
1x Uruk Scout

Thats 4 Crossbow shots per turn, 13 models. Pretty solid

With the old rules you don't need another hero just yet. I'd add 8 pikes to support the berzerkers, and 2 more xbows. For 150 points: 10 pikes, 1 shield, 4 xbows. Eventually you'll see what proportions work best.
