Folks, I am shortly to have my first good size game, against a new opponent for me, which hasnt been driven by Journey book scenarios.

So, although an experienced painter, I am in all reality a bit of a newbie at playing the game, although i've read heaps of advice on this forum.

My opponent is fielding Gondor; so I've got lots of armour to deal with...

Knowing this and looking to theme my army against his, so we can perhaps make a nice report out of (using all painted models), I have gone with my Mordor forces, and focused on Cirith Ungol.

So I have come up with the following
(Again this is based on what I have painted and not necessarily what I would take if anything was available!):

Orc Captain with shield 45pts
Orc Shaman 50pts
9 orcs with shield 54pts
8 orcs with spear 48pts
7 orcs 2HW 42pts
Orc Banner 30pts
2 Warg rider with Bow 26pts
2 Warg rider with Spear 28pts
2 Warg rider with shield 26pts

Shelob 90pts

Mordor Troll 100pts
Mordor Troll with Drum 150pts

Generic Nazgul (Full MWF) on Fell Beast 160pts

This comes to 849pts

additional options:

I have 8 orcs with bow, but thought these no use against gondor armour.
I could take extra orc banner 30pts, Orc Taskmaster 60pts, Orc Drummer 40 pts, more Nazgul (generic) full MWF on Horse x1, more generic Nazgul on foot.
WitchKing on foot, also on foot with Crown of Morgul and MorningStar.

I can take an extra Orc Shaman if I use Khardush (not sure of his SBG stats).

Real Biggies, I could take Dragon or Balrog, but not sure these really themed to CU army.

Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Scott

PS its a friendly game, not looking to win any tournies!

You can't use Balrog nor Dragon in your army, because they can only be used with goblins and some orc lists.
You will ally those nazguls with your CU army cause they aren't in the CU standards lists, right?

The part about the Balrog and Dragon is wrong.

They are part of the 'Monsters of Middle-earth' army list which can ally with every evil list bar one or two. They CAN ally with Cirith Ungol.

I agree on too many Heroes, drop 2 of them (I would suggest the Captain and either the Troll Dummer or the Troll). Then you can get some more troops (more Orcs or some Uruks), or you couldpotentially make some more cuts and squeeze in a Dragon with an upgrade or 2.

Yup, but I don't think Sharkey's ruffians can ally. I agree that there are too many monsters and heroes. I would probably drop one of the trolls and the captain or maybe the shaman if you are low on might. If you are fighting Gondor, I strongly suggest getting some morranon orcs as they are more than a match to Gondorians and cost the same points. I would also swap the Nazgul for a named one maybe the shadow lord as he will be easy to "convert" just blue runes on the edge of his cloak and he won't have his fell beast shot down from under him nearly as easily.

Definitely need more numbers. You can take 75 models at 1000 points, and with Orcs you'd best get as close to that as possible.

Guys, thanks for all your helpful replies.
I did feel I may be low on warriors, but only really had the extra orcs with bows (that are painted) to throw in, which i didn't think would be much use against the armour of Gondor...

Not too keen to take the Dragon, as other post threads have mentioned may lead to a dull game, as it very difficult to kill... Perhaps best kept for scenarios, or much larger battles...

I am now thinking about altering my force from Cirith Ungol, to Dol Guldur with Dwellers Below as allies, this will bump up my warriors and allow me to try a few "creepies and beasties" aswell.
