Am I missing something? These guys seem very, well average. Aside from a chariot, what is their shtick?

Youre missing nothing. They are average. People either use them for aesthetics because they like them or want something different, or because of the lore general.

Ive even see people mention buying them because they found a lucky cheap lot at an old hobby store or on ebay lmao.

Personally, I dont care about their lore, the way they look is god awful, and their stats are weak. Id never go after these models unless I got them cheap, and then Id only use them to trade or sell.
Id never, ever field one hahaha.

I have to agree that the stats are pretty "ho-hum".
However, for me I could see house ruling them for more excitement.

I have the cavalry, and need warriors to fill out a Warband.
For me, I love the variety that units like these bring.

...and I like the sculpts.

I like them in WotR, they are good in that with two-handed weapons.

Looking back at their stats there is plenty they can do but you need to use them wisely and have chariots. If I used them I'd probably put a Chieftain on horse and lead a warband of 12 of them on foot with axes.

You can back them up with Easterling pikes and have 3 dice at fight 4 and piercing strike.

Other than that the cavalry wargear is dumb. They all have a bow and no other weapons? Lol with non 100% bow limits......

By default they have hand weapons. Everyone has a hand weapon. Regardless, I know what you mean.

Oh, yeah, no options at all. Of course we know the price of the options so if one were convert a bunch of khand guys to use spears and the like i'm sure the opponent wouldnt mind

That is where I am going with them. They are a "blank slate".

Idk maybe. But it would be annoying to give a faction extra warhead. There is supposed to be a difference and a balance. It would make the game bland if every army had the same gear.

I think that the cavalry should have 100% bow limit, especially since they are all equipped with them. Maybe something like ignore the +1 penalty modifier for moving and shooting as well. I also think the warriors could use a little love. Oh well really, ...you do what you like with them. They exist for some reason???

Idk if I'd give them 100%.... I don't want to make them as powerful as Rohan. I think 50% is more than fair.

Their warriors are fair for the points value too. Like I said....you back them up with two rows of pikes you have three dice rolls at fight 4 with piercing strike. You can face two uruks and easily wipe them out.

I'd say give their cav and ft models 50% though for bows.

Hahaaha. Well you know honestly, the more I look at their force....if you make an army of them with Easterlings....youre set.....think about this:

Chieftan on chariot 8
8 cavalry with bow

Chieftan on horse
12 troops with axe

Chieftan on horse
12 troops with axe

Easterling Captain
8 with Pike

Easterling Captain with Halberd
8 with pike

749 Pts. Fight 4 in fights, with many dice in support. Piercing strike all over. 8 mobile bows and cavalry if needed for a charge. Defense 6 in some units

10 Might, 53 units.

It has its weaknesses, but for being only an Eastern Kingdom army its not bad and I wrote that up in less than 5 minutes.

That looks cool. Honestly, i dont think it will get much better than that. The easterlings would add a great punch. Maybe that is what khand is supposed to be, the easterling light infintry. I recently purchased the khand army set gw sold, the one which came with a capt and a handful of infintry. Perhaps i'll paint them up and see how they fair along side my easterling phalanx of doom (which I love so much!). 9 easterlings, 3x3 square lead by amdur. It is a great warband! 3a no matter what side you atk from def 6 and rerolls thanks to amdur. So much fun. That warband has carried me to victory so many times!

Yeah I just made that army quickly but I'd probably do two war bands of light khabdish with a bunch of eastern kataphracts for the punch

What about the 2h weapon? I've only used 2h weapons once, are they worth while? The new spear rules certainly help them more, but does the -1 to duel rolls greatly effect the mini?

Personally I never like putting two handed weapons unless I have a warband of like twelve hinter orcs and 2-4 two handed because they have some many dice rolls.

They're really set up as Easterling allies far more then as a core army in their own right.

Easterling Archers are very average at best. using your bow limit on Khandish cavalry isn't a bad idea at all. fight 4 cavalry archers are pretty handy even if they are rather soft.

Chariots also help fill a bit of a gap in the easterling army. Kataphracts are again pretty average. the black dragons upgrade helps a lot, but they'll generally lose out to all other elite/heavy cavalry. With the monstrous cavalry bonuses Chariots can help give kataphracts a much needed edge in cavalry on cavalry fights.

Basically they don't do well on their own, best combined with their fellow eastern kingdom army as if they were elite options (though they are deff more niche then elite)
