Hi, I'm from Huddersfield so theres possibly a battle there sometime in the future, but the guy you want to contact is Doug aka Typhoon2. He is based in Harrogate and he regularly hosts immense battles with armies upto 3000 points. Id definately reccomend!

Thanks for the recommendation - I've already been in touch with Agarwaen and we're meeting up at the GW store soon.

I was running the Harlow Gata group towards the end and at one point it was really buzzing, with magnificent assistance from the pub, manager and attendees, but it fizzled out as finances got tight and real-life stuff got in the way. Eventually the pub closed and was converted last year.

Harrogate is, however, blessed with some other wargames goodies. There is a wargames group at the Army Foundation College, and a thriving 40K club at the Menwith Hill base. The GW shop has a strong LOTR following and there are two primarily-historical clubs meeting on Thursdays at the RAFA Club and Dene Park community centre. Both have occasional LOTR games on.

We also have a Model Zone and a small train and model shop in the town.

I live locally in Guiseley.

I can easily get to GW Leeds, and in theory I could arrange a trip to Harrogate too :)

You're most welcome to join us at the GW or home games, Shieldmaiden. I'm buying a new house soon which will have a double garage and a 12 by 6 foot table permanently set up, so scope for some excellent battles. I'll still be hanging round the GW in Harrogate on a thursday for late gaming though, and maybe Leeds one day too.

That sounds suspiciously like a snooker table to me. :)

Snooker table? SNOOKER TABLE? Wash your mouth out sir - we'll have none of that nonsense here. Any flat surface should always be used for wargaming, or possibly laying out pizza and other table-side nibbles...

Hiya. The LOTR gaming in Harrogate has faded somewhat but it still exists and new opponents are always welcome. My club - the Harrogate and Ripon District group (HARD) - has a few LOTR players (not TH though) and I host mega-games from time to time. Shout when you're desiring a game.

Will do. Have been distracted by Battlegroup WW2 rules of late but LOTR is never forgotten. There's a huge LOTR at Orc-Ward Battles in Huddersfield which I'm helping to host - Helm's Deep expanded over the Mayday bank holiday weekend.

Hi there! It has been a while since anybody posted here but here goes!
It would be great to find some local opponents! I've played SBG mainly, I don't mind if people prefer points battles or scenarios, it would just be nice to use some of my collection again. I have mainly a dwarf army painted up but have many other factions too!!
Hopefully somebody is reading this haha!

I still game and can host (LOTR SBG). Sam at the local GW is very TH-friendly. The Ripon City Wargamers have a strong TH contingent plus the Harrogate and Ripon District Wargamers play LOTR SBG (not TH SBG). Plenty of choice in Harrogate and Ripon alone. :)

Will PM you Everlang. I'm hosting a huge WW2 game this coming weekend but have just added some more Dwarves to my collection, thereby bringing Battle of Five Armies (book, not film) forward. I've fought it a couple of times so am still tweaking the scenario but that's the summer project for large games. Some smaller ones in the meantime would be good too.

Everyone is most welcome for any games that I host (although be reminded that it's LOTR SBG not TH, although we steal a few ideas from the newest rules). The two clubs mentioned earlier are welcoming of players too, for evening pick-up games. We used to have half a dozen regular gamers here, putting on games at Warhammer World, taking over GW Harrogate and local pubs, etc. and it would be great to return to those golden days.

I'll find a date in my diary for a simple mega-game - two or three thousand-point armies per side - so that we can make it as much of a meeting of gamers as well as a game, and get to know each other.
