I’m painting Imrahil. He’s completed, but needs to be gloss varnished due to being metal. I’ll have to follow up with a matte varnish to eliminate the gloss shine. I’m concerned that these varnishes will change the look of the metal. Matte will remove the natural shine of the metal, and gloss will make it look wet. I could always repaint the metal on any parts that don’t look right, but would like to avoid this if possible.

Anyone have a solution to this?

Can always use "the army painter" anti shine varnish rattle can or dropper pots.

I was asking this in forums for years, never found good solution. Two things that worked a bit:
- Try a better varnish like the antishine as weel said and the W&N professional.
- Don't go for a third coat. Make em of maximum of two with the matt as the last one
- Don't use much of varnish, only a little in the edges where it is pushed mostly is just enough.

If there is another opinion I am interested to listen to it too....
