Just came back from a gig from our band, all happy and cheerfull from our performance, ready to enter the battle of the bands in two weeks, we arrive back home and just realise, we've left all our gear in the taxi. Spent the next two hours phoning taxi companies if anyone knew about 3 foreingers entering a taxi and puting lots of musical gear in the back. No results. In their was a bass guitar, pedal and lots of leads. The worst thing of all, was a 20 year old Fender that used to belong to my father, now it's gone. It's now 2am and theres nothing I can do. I will keep on phoning to see if anything comes up in the morning but I dought it. The worst feeling is that it's totally MY fault. I completely forgot about the gear since we were so cheerfull and proud. Theres no excuse watsoever. It's all [WORD EDITED] lost. I would do anything to get this equiptment back, ANYTHING. Nothing can replace that fender. I've never felt this low. Now I've gotta face my father in the morning and tell him and that's gonna be [WORD EDITED] brilliant. I can't believe this just happened, nothing has felt worse and it's all MY fault...

Not sure where you are in the world but I'm guessing the UK with 1000 quid, but it may be worth checking with the Police.
In England the law would find you guilty of disposing of the equipment, whether you intend to keep it or sell it to another. It's known as appropriation - ie treating someone elses property as your own.
This could easily be classed as theft / handling stolen goods.
So with an apparent crime being committed there is chance of some form of investigation - CCTV can be checked etc. The streets won't be pulled up but worth a try.
Also may be worth keeping an eye on Ebay, local second hand stores that specialise in instruments. I would also call every music retailer in that area. Musicians would surely look after one another (barring the odd unscrupulous individual) so the more eyes looking the better. Also, another musician is more likely to spot a vintage instrument than your general Joe Bloggs.
Further more use the most powerful system in the world - the press. Play on it, tell them it belonged to whoever you like - a dead relative for example. Anything to get people looking and spreading the world. Another valuable tool is the word ' reward ' it doesn't have to be millions, just use the word. The reward could be a scabby sweet wrapper, but it's still a reward.
I'm no musician but I can appreciate how much this would mean to you.

Wishing you all the luck in the world 8)

Thanks alot. I did inform the police and theres this website that shows every single lost item in south korea. About 40 are updated per day so it is very active. I did find an eletric guitar there but it wasn't mine, so it does show that taxi drivers do return things.

That, to be honest seems along the basic line I was fearing. These sort of websites can be a bit basic and although you have 40 items a day, how long is the back date ? I wouldn't be surprised if some of those things took an age to get on. It also rather unfortunately raises the point that if this website is entering 40 items a day, how rife is crime there ?
So, have you tried the event organiser ? They will have local contacts. Also other bands at the event. Think a little outside the box. At times like this, as good as any Police are, you will be lucky to have any success because they have not the time to devote to this like you have. That may seem wrong or harsh but it is the truth.
