My collection has to fit in cat-proof places or risk being put in the toilet. (I'm not joking.) I have to limit it to the space in the display cabinet.

I always think about where the new purchase is going to be stored.
Then if I need it.
Then how long it will take to paint.
Then if I have the paint.
Then when I plan to paint it.

I mean when I collected WWII minis I bought heaps.
Half not finished.
But I always intended to finish them.

An old English Mechanical engineer once taught me when estimating how long a job will take to think the following..
"Double it and times it by four"

I'm hoping to get my stuff painted in the next ten years

OMG I'll be 120 years old !!!!!!

Oh well... lets find a painting service. Contract it out.. isn't that the fad nowadays?

My original tactic was to tell myself i can't buy anything else til i paint what i already have. Then I went out and bought it anyway....

Lately I've tried a new tactic, I ask for permission from my wife before buying. I then get copious amounts of information regarding our budget and spending priorities. It works a treat for controlling my collecting.

We live far away from any GWs or hobby stores, so we have to wait awhile till we get a chance to buy anything, and then also see how much we can afford at the time. No impulse buys for us! We have to think hard about it. If we still really want a model even after a few months waiting, then we usually buy it. This method is really imposed by our location. Don't know what we'd do with a GW next door!

This method doesn't stop tremendous backlag though... :oops:
