Here's Yet Another Return of the King Journeybook battle, the Charge of the Mûmakil.

http://davetownsend.org/Battles/LotR-20190413/

Éomer! Elephants! What's not to like?

For those of you following along the campaign, there's only four more RotK-JB scenarios left. The Pyre of Denethor is one I'm really looking forward to -- especially now that we have the new Denethor model holding the torch! But the other three scenarios are dauntingly large and I still have a lot of models to paint before I can get to them.

I say give yourself a treat and play the Pyre scenario out of order.

Really enjoyed reading this battle report, Dave! It seems like the Return of the King scenarios are large scale and fun to play. I've heard some say that the RoK ones aren't that great but you're making me want to hunt down the journeybooks and give those scenarios a go!

Thanks! I don't think the RotK JB in general is one of the better ones -- I'm particularly put off by the lazy "Take Éomer and 300 points of troops" force specifications -- but reviewing my own experiences there are some decent scenarios in there.

More important from my point of view is that they're rarely seen scenarios. Everyone tries a Fellowship campaign, but it usually peters out before reaching the third book/movie. So I decided to "cheat" and just start out there instead.

Nice series of battles you have going!
This is exactly the kind of project that i really dig, some awesome narrative scenarios.

Great looking game! Hope to play this battle some day. We've had one Mûmakil in stand-by for years collecting dust. I just need to get a second and have it. Your game looked fun.

Cool scenario and I’ve read and enjoyed the other ones as well.
In this one, Eomer certainly has his work cut out for him. I feel like Rohan needs more riders and another hero.
Keep the games coming! Nicely done.

That is a real bummer about the take a hero and X points nature of these scenarios, Dave. I've seen some scenarios that I would consider trying but then I see that in the Participants list and I'm a lot less enthusiastic about them because I feel like they won't be playtested or balanced very well. It does make me all the more happy that you're enjoying each of these scenarios however. Keep 'em coming because we're having fun reading them!
