After Shelob's Lair I was still in a spidery mood, so I tried Flies and Spiders, Part I.

I feel exactly the same way about the spiders. I bought one big one to use as the one who spawns babies and a pack of the 3 little ones. The little ones have some nice pieces to add to bases or use as objectives. The best thing about them is that they are rubbery. You can bend those legs all over the place while painting and they won't break. Usually I hate rubbery minis (Reaper bones, I'm looking at you!), but spiders with indestructible legs are great.

From what I've read at taleofpainters, the GW spiders are miserable minis anyway. Their legs are fragile and aren't cast nicely to fit their bodies. A very fiddly assembly with lots of green stuffing and not a fun experience. Not to mention the expense.

I'm still trying to find the perfect spider for Mirkwood. I want something big enough to fill those bases. I bought GW spider rider spiders years ago for the Necromancer book, but compared to today's minis, they are quite static.

I was thinking about the ones that eBob do but I'm not sure if they're too large?

He doesn't make those spiders any more. Don't order them or you'll lose your money. You can see our topic on him, lots more details there.
