Thinking of making an Ent out of wire, (or two, or three) but having no plastic Gw Ents myself, I've been forced to mprovise what I think is the size of them. I have a Mordor Troll that I've been using for scale, but I just can't get it to look right. If anybody could help me by putting up a picture of an Ent (either GW or homemade) next to a Mordor/isengard troll that would help immensely. Thanks.

Hi,

although converted theses models are still accurate to the original size. From left to right is a home-made ent with wire and plastic gw bits as you are describing, then a plastic ent boxset, a troll chieftain and a treebeard kit. Hopefully this helps :)

I took a pic but it's not letting me upload it. The Ent is twice the height of the troll, and treebeard is about a third taller.

The O scale/1/48 ruler puts the troll at 10 feet. The same as the 1980 GW Tree beard,Reaper, Mage Knight, and Heritage (1979). The current Treebeard stands at 15 feet. The tree armature conversions stand about 18 to 20 feet.
I don't have a metric ruler handy. 2 1/2 inches is very near 10 ft. 3 3/4 is near 15 feet. 20 feet is very close to 5 inches.
I hope this Helps.
I am going to give the Bones (white) figure a new set of tree armature and make him 15 to 18 feet tall.

Treebeard is 3 1/2" or 9cm tall. Body is 1" or 2cm wide. It doesn't matter too much about height as there were plenty of variations. The original gw ent was shorter than treebeard (as seen in previous pics) and the newer plastic model is taller (but too think for my liking).

I was thinking about making my own ent last night, I was just wondering how to go about doing the skeleton - Is it best to make it from head to toe & fingertips to opposite fingers and somehow wrap these together? Or just do it part by part and somehow get it to join on without driving me nuts.

Watch the scenes at the end of The Two Towers or the Entmoot or look at Framecaplib - Ents come in various sizes and shapes - all large but some are bigger than average or a bit more chunky because of their similarity to a variety of different tree species.

So we have lots of scope for variations in Ent height and bulk, as long as they are not too hasty.
Baroooom!

I think that we need to get Alan Titchmarsh in to hand out rosettes!

I've made a few. They range from 100-120mm tall.

I also did a tutorial on sculpting Ents which can be found in the Tomes of Wisdom:

UKFB's array of Ents is exactly the sort of thing I love to see - beautifully modelled, neatly painted, elegantly based, and with variety in colour, texture and pose yet they are all, unmistakably Entish. Wonderful!
