A very useful article for those wishing to get better results with their photography. Nick covers a lot of ground here but doesn't get bogged down in technical details.

The outcomes are pretty nice, the images help explain what he is trying to describe and overall, I think the article is a great addition to the library and will help newcomers to the "black art" of photography.

thanks for all the comments guys. Ellesar...the camera i used is in the shop, so when Dag wanted those pics i had to use a friends lower grade cam.

Great article Bickels! It states that you are using Photoshop in your article yet you are using Paint to do the white backgrounds. I suggest using the 'Magic Wand' tool and click on the background areas and delete them. You will not get a fuzzy edge this way. Once again, nice work! :)

thanks, but I have found that if you use a black background and use paint then you get a nice black outline.

Thank you for a very informative article. My images made an immediate improvement from your advice.

My only suggestion would be to include more information on the general principles of level adjustment (the one place that seemed vague to me) and perhaps have several examples of other programs. I believe that most photo editing programs have this feature, and I'm certain other members of the community could help out by contributing feedback.
