Post subject:  Article Submission Instructions

So you want to submit an article to the Library eh? Here is the step by step instructions on how to do that:

[h2]Step 1[/h2]
Read the article guidelines and understand them.

Write the article in your favourite word processor package (e.g. Microsoft Word) first. At this stage, don't put in any pictures yet. Save a copy to your hard drive as a backup (just in case) and then copy the entire document into the clipboard.

[h2]Step 2[/h2]
Go to the appropriate Library Category for your article (e.g. Natural Landscape, Painting the Forces of Evil etc) and click the Submit button at the top of the page under the words "Article Library."

Now fill out the three basic fields: Article Name, Description, and Type.
Article Name is the title of the article - what you want the article to be displayed as in the library.
Description is a brief explanation of what the article is about.
Type is a way of defining the sort of article (Project, Technique, etc)
Once you're happy with these, click the Submit button. The basic details will be recorded and you will be taken on to the next step.

[h2]Step 3[/h2]
Fill out the remaining details. Note that some default values have been set for you, but please change them to the appropriate values.
Complexity is a measure of how difficult your project would be for others to follow. Try to be as honest as possible.
Realm is the region or culture to which your article applies. Set it to All Regions if the article is not about a specific culture.
Status leave this as Draft if you are still working on the article and its not ready for the proofreaders to have a look at. Change it to Submitted when its ready.
Category is the part of the Library in which the article will be listed.
Paste in your article into the Article Text area and now use bbCode to make it look better. You can use the standard codes for Bold, Italics, underlining etc, that are used in the forums, plus we've added some new ones:
Code:
[aimg]imagename.jpg[/aimg]
[h1]heading 1[/h1]
[h2]heading 2[/h2]
[h3]heading 3[/h3]
[itemlist]list of items[/itemlist]
[center]text to be centred[/center]
[hr] - horizontal line

And we'll be adding a few others too over time.
[hr]Some notes about the [aimg] tag: Its very similar to the [img] tag, but does not include the "http://www.websiteurl.com/" part. It is only for use with images that have been uploaded using the article system.
[hr]
[h2]Adding Images[/h2]
Type in a short but meaningful name in the Image Title field. Its not really important, but it will help you identify the images later on.

Type in the directory path and filename of theimage to be uploaded (or better still, use the Browse button to find it). and then click Upload Image.

The image will be given a new, unique name and then uploaded to the site. The new filename will be displayed in the space on the left of the screen and will typically look like this: img32as4dsd339s2.jpg. In brackets next to it will be the meaningful title you gave it.

To get that image to display in the body of the article type in [aimg] and then the new file name followed by the close tag, e.g.
Code:
[aimg]img32as4dsd339s2.jpg[/aimg]

[h2]Step 4[/h2]
Click the Submit button to save the article into the Library.

Articles that have a Status of Draft will be not be proofread and will be deleted after a period of time. Submitted articles will be proofread and either Accepted, Rejected, or set to Needing Amendments.

The One Ring Article system is now open and accepting articles.

Its been a long time since I began redesigning it and I hope you find it efficient and easy to use.

[h1]What does the Article Status mean?[/h1]
Draft - The article is still being worked on. Proofreaders will ignore this article until its status is set to Submitted.

NOTE: Draft articles will be deleted after 21 days if there has been no amendments made to it.

Submitted - You have finished the article and its ready for the proofreaders to cast their eye over.

Being Proofread - The article is being reviewed by the Proofreading team. If you make amendments to the article, it will be reset to Submitted once more.

Rejected - The article was not up to the quality that we are looking for.

NOTE: Rejected articles will be locked initially and then deleted after 21 days.

Needs Amendments - The Proofreaders have decided that the article has merit but needs further work in order for it to be up to the quality we expect.

NOTE: Articles in need of Amendments will be deleted after 28 days if no firther work has been done on the article.

Resubmitted - After making amendments to improve the article according to the instructions from your Proofreader, set the status to this and the Proofreader will review your changes.

Accepted (pending Approval) - The proofreader has accepted your article and has recommended that it be approved for inclusioin into the library. The Admin team may still reject it or request further work however.

That's one of the tasks of the Lorekeepers (aka proofreaders).
Not sure if the thumbnail field is available for regular members but I don't think so.

I have finished the typing for an article, but the pictures don't seem to be working. I can upload them fine, but when I enter them in the text it just shows the little box with the triangle, square and circle. The pictures are the correct size and dimensions, and I've double and triple checked those. Any idea on what is going on?

I've just checked your article and the three pictures seem to load fine. Perhaps some momentary glitch with the server or something.

I've just checked your article and there is only 1 image there now, which loads fine.

Your issue may be that the images you are using are too big or too high a resolution.

If you have any issues resizing images or lowering the resolution, email them to me and I will take care of them for you.

So is there any way to post a thumbnail? I know there was a field in the beginning part where you could post it, but it has been removed :(

That is something that the proofreaders will do, dont worry.

If I want to have a template in .pdf format with my article, do I host it outside of the site and simply link to the hosted version? Or can you host it on OR if it's small enough?

I think you should link it. That's what I've seen others do.

Hey Alan,

I was just wondering how I can submit my article :S I looked through the appropriate forum, but I can't find the Submit button anywhere, even when I went to the Article Library and went into the 'Forces of Good' Painting Library.

Cheers!

That's odd, it seems to have dissapeared... probably happened when the hacker messed with the article library page.

The 'upload article' button is now right on top of the subcategory thumbnails. You have to pick the appropriate subcategory in the Library, click the button and work from there.

Here's a piccie:
Image

I just took the snapshot so its still working for me, but it seems that the Library system was, basicly, swiched off.

I know that Dag was testing stuff in the Gallery and Library systems, maybe he needs the whole thing to be inactive while he works on it.

Anyway, if you plan to submitt an article meanwhile, just use a text editor (Word, Writer, even Notepad will do...) to type all the stuff. You can Copy-Paste later.

Give it a try now. I think our hacker turned it off, unless it only just happened suddenly today.

I can now see the upload button, and when I get through to the first page all is good - however when I go to the second page I just get a blank field (i.e. nowhere to input any text etc) :|
