I'm gonna need at least two of these! Super excited that the SBG is getting some attention.

So if we are getting new Hero's in plastic with King Theoden first, what will be next? Personally hoping for a new Strider, can't have enough Striders IMHO. I think we are ok for Gandalfs though

The models at retail are worth double what the box is going to go for. That's not including the book and dice.

Has there even been a price announced?

Yeah, there was a leak from an independent store that the box was $150 USD.

I guess they are like the cardboard tokens in the existing accessories pack, so maybe some tokens for the witchking's magic powers, or to mark prone models.

What are the chances Games Workshop teams up with Amazon to produce miniatures for their upcoming Middle-Earth themed TV show? That'd be incredible for the hobby and extremely exciting obviously- assuming of course they do a passable Peter Jackson-lite job that does Tolkien's world proper justice.

The timing of this relaunch 2-3 years before its release makes even more sense then and perhaps that's what GW are working towards. Apologies if this has been covered in another topic elsewhere.

Well, it's hard to tell at this point. I think it would only make sense if the show is set in PJ's universe, which looks like it's going to be, but there hasn't been any confirmation yet.

They seem to have renewed their current license though, so I'll guess that they will try to get that one as well. My theory is that they're pushing it right now to show them that they're worth the license - I doubt that they'd be given the license to the show if they continued like they did before.

So I do think that they're trying to get the license and if their ME rebranding is met with a great response, I think they have a good chance, but it's too early to tell.

One of the Warhammer guys said that he hopes they get the license, but he doesn't really have any inside knowledge, so...

I don't think any of the recent efforts have anything to do with the Amazon series - the new team was formed before anything was known about that, and until they get the license, most things will work out as they have been planned for months and indeed years already. Although I would like to think their behaviour has an impact on getting the license, I doubt those responsible care too much about the business practices, as long as it doesn't harm the brand and they get their money.

The decision on whether or not to pursue the license likely lies beyond the actual Middle-earth team, but whether it makes any commercial sense will no doubt depend very heavily on how the new releases will perform, and of course the license negotiations if it gets that far.

Most of all, however, it's way too early to tell. All of this may or may not happen in a few years - I'm rather more interested in what we'll see over the next few weeks and months.

I don't need any of the models from the new box set, so that will save me some money. A new Theoden isn't enough to reel me in.

I would have liked to have seen a Battle of Pelennor Fields box similar to the Battle of Five Armies Warmaster scale game they released several years ago. It would have been cool to have Mumaks and seige weapons in the tiny scale.

As for the new TV show, I am actually excited to see a vision of Middle Earth that is by someone other than Peter Jackson. Nothing against Jackson, but I want to see what someone else can do. I've always thought there are as many different versions of Middle Earth in people's heads as there are people who have read the book.

I'm torn. I'd really like the forge world mumak, but with shipping, it's only $50 more for the new boxed set with the rules I will probably buy anyway. With the new display, it looks like the boxed mumak will be available in stores again, so maybe I'll get him after all. I'm also thinking about buying the forge world mumak and trading his special parts for the evil army, as I already have a pretty good Rohan force.

Question: When exactly will the box set be available to order?

I just called my local gaming store (I'm in Hawaii so there really aren't that many options and no official Games Workshop store) and they said I wouldn't be able to order it until mid September. I was under the impression it would be available for preorder August 25th and released September 1st, is this correct? Is anyone else hearing that it won't be available until mid September?

I’m not sure we have an official release or pre-order date yet.

Buying direct from the GW website is probably your best option.

Not long now! Even though I have no real need for most of the models in the box set, I'm tempted to purchase it just for the box art... lol. My wallet, however, disagrees with me. I'll settle for the books, I guess.
