Hey! Just thought I'd see if anyone knows of any current companies still going who sell good proxies. I'm aware of unreleased miniatures & Gripping beast, looking for other suggestions. :E

Don't forget Conquest Games - they have some lovely Norman Knights both on foot and mounted - and a generic Medieval Archer set that would work for militia.

Don't forget Perry Miniatures! The Perry brothers sculpted a lot of the original LOTR line.

There's loads of great companies! Just gonna quote myself from this (viewtopic.php?f=30&t=33251) post some time ago:

- Northstar (check out Frostgrave and their upcoming Fantasy range with Tolkien-ish Dwarves!)
- Reaper Miniatures (lots of miniatures for Pathfinder)
- Perry Miniatures
- Conquest Games
- Crusader Miniatures
- Copplestone Miniatures
- Midlam Miniatures
- Musketeer Miniatures
- Otherworld Miniaturs (lots of classical RPG miniatures)
- Gamezone Miniatures
- Hasslefree Miniatures
- Red Box Games

yeah, I'd throw in another recommendation for Red Box and Hasslefree miniatures.

I mention the two, because Hasslefree is a UK reseller of Red Box (as Artemis Black's page). And the Red Box miniatures, especially the dwarves and "fantasy English" and "fantasy Norse" are well suited, scale wise, for LOTR.

Whenever I get around to finishing up my LOTR collection, I will be using Red Box for various Rhovanion factions.

Reaper I very much love, but I love them for D+D stuff, rather than LOTR. They tend to have more macho-posed, buxom-lassie type figures, as well as in a rather more "heroic" scale. Dark Sword miniatures sort of makes collector's figures in response to Reaper. One of the reasons I made a big shift in my minis collecting was realising that DS's main range were in a huge scale, way beyond LOTR. Their Jeff Grace sculpted Dwarf towers over LOTR dwarves. After getting a bunch I decided to focus on painting D+D minis instead.

I also recommend Tom Meier's Thunderbolt Mountain figures. (Meier also sculpts a lot of figures for Dark Sword, and they are at a scale more compatible with LOTR metal miniatures)

And more bad news, Red Box will no longer be restocked at Hasslefree - the bad state of the pound meant the prices just had to keep increasing. Quite a few models are already no longer available.

oh man. that's rather too much bad news in a series of posts.

I really need to win the lottery and buy all of Meier's Elves, Goblins and other fantasy characters for LOTR. I wonder if Dark Sword might be convinced to sell them from their site instead?
