Well...
Here's the model with its two top positioning lugs aligned and the modelled banded together... seems to have a rather big gap down its back :(
Image

And with its [word deleted] end properly aligned as well, seems to leave a rather big gap around the head, looks like the right side is 4mm shorter than the left.
Image

Again all aligned with the top of the two halves level (again locating plugs aligned) seems that the model is 4mm short as well, think it might need a bit of scraping
Image

On the plus side the detail of the crew is fantastic and no air bubbles, problem is one bow is busted, one has its tip missing and one bent at a 90' angle. The spear of the driver looks more like one of those joke nails that bend round your finger.

Think this is my first and last Finecast model.

Blimey, that's bloody aweful. Have you taken it in store and asked for a replacement to open a new one and see if it's the same [word deleted] quality?

I purchased the rohan and minas tirith commanders sets, my first finecast, and I am so impressed at the NASA type technology that allows a resin to not only be soft, but brittle as well. Seriously amazed. I was also amazed at the number and placement of the resculpt(TM) air bubbles. Their placement give real realism to a battle damaged miniature. Their use of what seemed to be an indestructible/uncleanable release agent, after multiple soap and hot water scrubbing sessions( with a toothbrush) the miniature STILL had a hydrophobic property. Oh, and the battle damage on two of them on their heads was quite incredible. Somehow GW managed to remove only half their faces, how amazing is that?

:)

Hith, I think you should just take it back and ask for a replacement, that is just terrible.

Seriously, that is ridiculous, even for Finecast.

I distinctly recall a common slogan often used by GW on its website and in White Dwarf, something along the lines of "we make the best miniatures in the world".

<barfs>.

I wonder how much money GW is losing on refunds and replacements?

By all accounts, they've always had a generous policy on replacing damaged and miscast miniatures. I once took a Mordor Orc box back the next day because one had half a bow missing (and the missing piece wasn't in the box - if it was I would have glued it). It was replaced no questions asked, didn't even want to see a receipt. So for all its faults, at least you couldn't criticise them for that aspect of customer service.

But if they don't sort out these Finecast quality control issues soon, I reckon that they'll eventually make such a loss on it that they'll restrict the policy in some way, making it less lenient.

If you buy Finecast, you'd better keep your receipts!

It's product quality like this that started to make me buy minis from other companies. Privateer Press don't allow brown splodge like this to be sold to their customers.

Is this level of distortion common for this model? Does the whole hot water plan fix this issue for most people? This is a mini that I have been interested in, but I'm afraid I will have to pass if finecast continues to be such a major problem. Please keep us posted.

Like on a previous post, you only have to put the model into hot water for 10 minutes and join together.
People just need to do a little more work with resin products.
Fair comment on miscast and air bubbles, but warming and bending into shape is not difficult.

The model costs £44.00 and is advertised as one of the best quality miniatures in the world, this is unacceptable.

As DMS said if I pay £44 for a model I don't want to spend time fixing their mistakes. Besides, I doubt the hot water method would fix something as distorted as hithero's Gorgoroth Beast.

Yeah, the Hot water method may help with tight action figure joints or partially re-posing a model but not this level of work.

Warming in water has sorted out the gap and the 3rd lug on its belly finaly snapped into place (providing it doesn't warp again when cooled and clamps are removed). One side is still to short and small be 4mm though, something greenstuff and scraping will not fix. Nor will it repair the broken weapons. My Dust Models walkers use finecast and have not had one single problem with it, straight gun barrels, perfect fit and no broken bits or airbubbles, so a decent model can be made from this stuff.

As others have said, the prices for Finecast miniatures do not justify the effort required on the part of the customer to make the models usable.
What on earth is a 12 year old kid supposed to do when he gets something as Devlan Mud as this?

Either the quality needs to be sorted fast, or the price should be reduced.

You really should take it back, every complaint is a good one if only to encourage them to improve the quality.:)

Well after reading this posting i got my Gorgoroth model out, yes i went badly together like hiteros.

So i soaked it in hot water for 5 minutes, and this is without gluing

Its that simple.

Chatting to the guy who runs our local gaming shop (not a GW store) he thinks he gets about a third of his finecast sales returned due to poor quality. GW are as everyone says really good about sorting out replacements, but it is a bit of a headache for a small business.
