I think that something is seriously wrong and telling where a Tolkien enthusiast putting the time and effort into running a fan site has declared that he is no longer purchasing the miniatures due to the exorbitant costs! You said it brother! If I didn't love this community so much and rank several...

Yes, one volume. It's a really interesting read and it covers more than just his Middle-earth saga. He has such an eloquent turn of phrase that comes out so beautifully in his letters.

Cheers Greg. I really must get up to Group North again soon.

I have bought only a single model from the Hobbit range, and that was because I promised it to a member for finding all of the Furbies when we went live with the new website design. And I was so shocked at the price that I decided then and there to give up buying GW products any more. I don't even b...

There is a hint in one of Tolkien's letters that, at its height, the power and might of Numenor was too great for the Ringwraiths to face. Letter 131 To Milton Waldman (late 1951) ... This phase ended and the last began with the ascent of the throne by the thirteenth king of the line of Elros, Tar-C...

There is a centralised "moan" topic Sacrilege - feel free to post in there. Is there really any point in spreading this same complaint across a number of threads?

Good luck to them! The miniatures are superb - some of them are designed by Alan Marsh, one of the best sculptors of the smaller scale figures.

I love the flamethrower tank and pretty much all of the Martian stuff! MUST RESIST...

We've 'cooked up' a number of steps to counter the dreaded kitchen spammers and hopefully they will cut down on the number of posts we're getting. But please remember the http://www.one-ring.co.uk/styles/OneRing/imageset/en/icon_post_report.gif button and help us to put a halt to these evil kitchen ...

A very realistic hedge but a massive one if I might say. The hedges that we know as "bocage" in France were over 5m (15') tall, and they sat atop an embankment that made them even higher above the road surface. A Sherman tank could pass along next to one and it would not be visible from t...

The figures are from Artizan, from their British Command group. Fully compatible with 28mm minis from other companies such as Bolt Action (Warlord) and Crusader. The M20 is a Tamiya 1:48 scale plastic kit. The model is intended to work for gaming both in Middle-earth and Normandy. The "Bocage&q...

Along the Eastern border of Buckland runs an enormous hedge, built to keep the trees of the Old Forest at bay. Known as the High Hay, it was tall and dense and well-tended, and it ran for well over twenty miles end to end. To me, this sounded a little like the dense hedges that once lined the lanes ...

So what happened? The site was down due to an unannounced upgrade to the servers of the hosting company (http://www.powweb.com). Once upon a time they used to let me know in advance when they were doing stuff like this, but apparently 'courtesy' and 'customer service' are soooo 20th century. Sorry f...

And in an odd coincidence, my Fokker Dr1 arrived in the post on the 95th anniversary of von Richtofen's death.

I also received a copy of the Wings of Glory WWII Rules and Accessories pack. It is a more complex game than the WWI game, but the essential mechanics are the same. It's just that the kinds of damage that WWII aircraft inflicted is significantly more varied than their older counterparts, and also th...

3 games, 3 defeats. Two more victories in a row and my son will become an Ace. What am I doing wrong? Who cares, I'm still having fun. Two more aircraft arrived at the aerodrome today (a Fokker dr1 triplane and a Sopwith Camel), so my next dawn patrol will include a wingman on each side. That will m...

Wings of Glory Second World War has rules and missions for heavy bombers and even dive bombers. So you could re-play Pearl Harbor, Midway, or the Blitz. Currently, the models include the German Heinkel 111 and the American B25. There are more official models on the horizon (heheh, see what I did the...
